Air France and Airbus have completed what they claim to be world’sgreenest commercial flight. The two companies used the latest fuel and airtraffic management technologies on the flight from Toulouse to Paris, halvingthe CO2 emissions of a regular flight, with a fuel efficiency of 2.2 litres offuel per passenger.
The aircraft’s two engines were 50% filled with biofuel, and several ground and in-flight procedures were tested, including the use ofelectric generators on ground and taxiing with one engine shut down. The aircraftalso climbed and descended with no intermediary period and pilots constantlysearched for its optimum flight level and speed. Air France’s 110 new long-haulaircraft, which will go into service from 2016, will reduce fuel consumption upto 15%.
