Air France and KLM have started trialling in-flight connectivity on long-haul flights.
The new service commenced on Wednesday 29 May 2013, with two Boeing 777-300 aircraft having been equipped with Wi-Fi and mobile services. This means that passengers will be able to use their own personal electronic devices to access the internet, send and receive emails and SMS, and make and receive mobile phone calls, while in-flight.
The Wi-Fi service will be charged at EUR19.95 (US$25.70) for the full flight or EUR10.95 per hour, while mobile services are according to roaming rates.
“By jointly launching in-flight Wi-Fi and data transmission, Air France and KLM are continuing to innovate. This in-flight connectivity test phase on long-haul flights perfectly integrates our ongoing strategy to offer our customers even more new products and services.” said Alexandre de Juniac, chairman & CEO of Air France.
The two flights initially offering Wi-Fi and mobile services are Air France’s morning departure from Paris to New York and KLM’s flight to Panama. Mobile services will be provided by Panasonic Avionics.
Air France and KLM said they would conduct a trials onboard the two B777s throughout the rest of 2013.
