Air India adds Uttarakhand connection

Air India has launched a new regional service to the northern state of Uttarakhand.
As part of what the national carrier calls its “initiative to expand air connectivity to smaller cities and towns”, Air India has started flying direct from New Delhi to Pantnagar – a university town in the southeast of Uttarakhand.
The route will be operated four times a week, every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, using an ATR turboprop aircraft. The outbound service departs Delhi at 1430, reaching Pantnagar at 1530. The return flight will then leave Pantnagar at 1550, arrive back into Delhi at 1650.
Air India said it expects the route to be popular with “government officials, business travellers, students and tourists.”
The Pantnagar route marks the latest phase in Air India’s drive to connect more regional towns and cities in India. Recently, the airline launched six other regional routes, linking Mumbai with Bhuj, in Gujarat state, and Kolkata with Lilabari, in Arunachal Pradesh state, Shillong in Meghalaya, and the Assamese cities of Tezpur, Silchar and Guwahati.
Air India’s regional fleet includes eight ATR and Bombardier aircraft.
