Travellers in the Indian city of Ahmedabad will soon be connected to New York, following the launch of Air India’s latest international route.
Effective 15 August 2016, the national carrier’s existing Ahmedabad-London service will be extended across the Atlantic to Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey.
The flights are now available for booking, and will be operated using Air India’s two-class Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.
Under the new schedule, Air India’s flights from Ahmedabad to London Heathrow will continue to Newark every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Services will depart the Indian city at 0530 and arrive in London at 1015. After a short stop, the aircraft will take off again at 1230 and arrive in Newark at 1500.
On the return leg, flights will depart Newark at 2230 every Monday and Friday and touchdown at Heathrow at 1015 the next morning. The same aircraft will then leave London at 1230 and arrive back in Ahmedabad at 0200 the following morning. On Thursdays however, the return flights will leave Newark at 0200 and arrive in Ahmedabad at 0330 the next morning, including the stop in London.
Air India first launched its Ahmedabad-London service in December 2015. The extension to New York marks the continuation of the airline’s US expansion strategy, which also included launch of direct flights between Delhi and San Francisco late last year.
