Air India is planning to launch flight services to Tel Aviv and Washington DC, as well as to destinations in Africa, its chairman & managing director has revealed.

The Economic Times cited Ashwani Lohani as making the announcement at an event in Delhi to launch the national carrier’s new mobile app.

“We are going to connect Washington, Africa, Tel Aviv and many others [international destinations],” Lohani was quoted saying.

At present, Air India does not fly to any destinations in Africa or Israel. Washington DC would become the airline’s fifth US gateway, following Chicago, San Francisco, New York JFK and Newark.

The new mobile app, which has been developed by SITA, will enable passengers to manage their booking from their mobile device, including seat and meal selection, itinerary changes and online check-in. Passengers will be able to receive their boarding pass straight to their phone or smartwatch.
