Air India has started modernising its fleet of region aircraft.
The airline’s subsidiary, Alliance Air, has taken delivery of its first new ATR 72-600 aircraft. This new turboprop aircraft is the first of five that the airline will receive between now and July 2015.
These brand new ATRs will be configured with 70 seats.
“We are pleased to introduce into our fleet an aircraft which has clearly become the new reference among all regional planes. The ATRs have proven for years their reliability and their ability to bring our passengers to every destination of our regional network,” said Rohit Nandan, chairman of Alliance Air.
Alliance Air currently operates a fleet of four 48-seat ATR 42 and four 70-seat Bombardier CRJ aircraft. But the new ATR 72-600s will become the only larger 70-seat aircraft capable of operating at every airport currently served by the airline.
Alliance Air serves a series of smaller regional cities in India, offering connections to and from the hubs of Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Bengaluru.
