Air New Zealand will increase capacity on its Auckland-San Francisco route later this year.

To cater for an expected rise in demand between mid-December 2014 and March 2015, the airline will move from daily flights to 10 services per week, including double daily flights on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. This will mark the first time Air NZ has operated more than one daily flight on the route.

The additional services will depart Auckland at 1530, arriving in San Francisco at 0645.

“The timing, which differs from our traditional long-haul evening departures, will give customers more choice around when they fly. It also opens up the possibility for easier connections, particularly to East Coast destinations such as New York and Washington,” said Air NZ’s chief sales & commercial officer, Cam Wallace.

“The addition of two new Boeing 777-300 aircraft to our fleet mid this year fuels this growth on San Francisco, whilst also allowing us to again operate 17 services a week to Los Angeles over the peak period,” he added.

“The new aircraft will operate two daily flights between Auckland and LA and six days per week between Auckland and San Francisco. The new B777s will also feature Air NZ’s unique ‘Skycouch’ economy class product.
