AirAsia continues double-digit growth
AirAsia achieved another year of strong growth, with group-wide passenger traffic climbing 13% in 2012.
The low-cost carrier group was boosted by the launch of new subsidiaries last year, with AirAsia Philippines and AirAsia Japan launching in March and August 2012 respectively, and the combined AirAsia fleet aircraft carried 33.8 million passengers, up from 29.9m in 2011. Load factors remained unchanged at 80%.
Thai AirAsia saw the strongest results, with passenger traffic growing 21% to 8.3m and load factors averaging 82%. Indonesia AirAsia also performed well, with traffic jumping 17% to 5.8m and load factors remaining static and 77%. The group’s original Malaysia unit also continued to grow, with traffic up 9% to 19.7m, and load factors of 80%.
Last year, AirAsia expanded its fleet from 96 to 113 Airbus A320 aircraft.
