AirAsia extends QPR sponsorship
AirAsia has extended its sponsorship of English Premier League football club, Queen’s Park Rangers (QPR).
The low-cost carrier will place its name on all of QPR’s playing kits for the duration of the 2012-13 season. Last year it shared the shirt space with Malaysia Airlines. London-based QPR is owned by AirAsia’s Group CEO, Tony Fernandes.
“We are delighted to renew our partnership with QPR,” said AirAsia’s Group Commercial Head, Kathleen Tan. “Our relationship has grown tremendously since we initiated the partnership in September last year, so we believe it’s time to take it to the next level by becoming the sole official playing kit sponsor for the new season. We wish QPR all the best for the upcoming season, and we look forward to do our best in achieving our joint dreams and aspirations.”
The partnership marks the continuation of AirAsia’s sports marketing strategy, which has also seen it sponsor English Premier League officials, the Caterham Forumla One team, Oakland Raiders American football team, and various other regional events.
QPR’s Marketing Director, Becky Grote commented; “Moving AirAsia on to all three of our playing kits allows them the maximum exposure to the growing worldwide football audience. We have great ambition for the growth of QPR in the Asian market, and AirAsia provide us with the perfect platform to raise awareness of the Club in new territories.”
QPR returned to English football’s top flight football for the first time in 15 years in 2010-11, and earlier this month secured its place in the Premier League for another year following a dramatic last day decider against Manchester City.
