AirAsia has finally received permission to launch its direct Bali–Melbourne service and will commence flights on 18 March.
The route, which will be the first operated by new subsidiary Indonesia AirAsia X, was originally scheduled to commence on 26 December 2014, and its last-minute postponement left many passengers’ festive holiday plans in tatters.
But Australia’s Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) has now cleared Indonesia AirAsia X to launch the route, and AirAsia’s group CEO, Tony Fernandes, said he was “delighted” with the decision.
“We have been working very closely with CASA and are very pleased to have their full approval to operate,” said Fernandes. “We adhered to standard aviation practice in selling the flights but unfortunately we were caught up by bad timing during Christmas, in which we were not able to rectify the matter in time.
“We deeply apologise for the inconvenience caused to all of our guests and now look forward to welcoming them on board,” he added.
The Bali-Melbourne route will now commence on 18 March, initially with two weekly flights. But this frequency will be increase to five flights per week from 1 April 2015.
The flight time is approximately six hours and 10 minutes, and all flights will be operated using a 377-seat Airbus A330-300 aircraft, which includes 12 flat-bed seats in business class.
