AirAsia has expanded its network from Penang with the launch of a new direct service to Yangon.

Flights commenced on 22 March and will now operate three times a week, every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. The outbound flight will depart Penang at 1200 and arrive in Yangon at 1245, while the return service will leave Myanmar’s largest city at 1310 and arrive back on Penang at 1700.

Like all AirAsia flights, the new route will be served using an all-economy class Airbus A320 aircraft.

“We were just here in Penang less than two months ago to celebrate our Penang-Ho Chi Minh City direct flights, and today we are thrilled to mark another milestone in our commitment to grow Penang as our northern hub,” said Aireen Omar, CEO of AirAsia. “We are confident we will be able to further position Penang as a preferred destination through our marketing efforts to promote this route.”

AirAsia now flies from Penang to seven international destinations, including AirAsia Malaysia’s services to Singapore, Medan, HCMC and Yangon, Thai AirAsia’s flights to Bangkok, and Indonesia AirAsia’s services to Jakarta and Surabaya.

And Penang becomes AirAsia’s third destination from Yangon, following Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok.
