AirAsia is now offering child-free ‘quiet zones’ on its long-haul flights.
Available across the entire network of the group’s long-haul subsidiary, AirAsia X, the new ancillary offering will see the first seven economy class rows (7-14), immediately behind the business class cabin, reserved for passengers travelling without children.
As well as being child-free, the quiet zone will feature soft lighting, intended to provide a “more relaxing cabin atmosphere”, according to the airline.
“We are pleased to carry out another new product option for our guests,” said AirAsia X’s Chief Executive Officer, Azran Osman-Rani. “This product enhancement allows our guests to have a more pleasant and peaceful journey with minimal noise and less disturbance.”
Guests wanting to book the quiet zone can select it as an option in the “pick-a-seat” stage of the online booking process. It will be charged at the same rate as a standard seat selection fee.
While AirAsia confirmed that passengers under 12 years of age would not be able to sit in the quiet zone, it was keen to add that it was not discriminating against children or families.
“The airline is not banning kids from travelling, but instead, is enhancing the array of product offerings onboard to suit its guests’ individual needs and preference. We also offer three infant bassinets in the other two larger economy cabin sections to cater for families with young children. Hence, offering a fair choice for our guests.”
The quiet zones will be available on AirAsia X’s flights from Kuala Lumpur to destinations in China, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Australia and Nepal.
