AirAsia has teamed up with in-flight connectivity provider roKKi to offer Twitter access onboard its flights.
This service marks an enhancement to the existing onboard Wi-Fi offering that was launched on AirAsia’s flights last November. AirAsia’s group CEO Tony Fernandes, a regular Twitter user, launched the new service by sending the airline’s first onboard Tweet.
“Providing guests access to the latest Tweets from 10,000ft above sea level is another milestone for us. Chatting, whether through IM apps or social media, is an integral part of our lives and our aim is to help everyone stay connected even while they’re above the clouds,” said Adrian Lim, CEO of roKKi.
AirAsia passengers need to purchase a roKKi Chats Instant Messaging (IM) package to use the Twitter service, which also includes access to apps such as WeChat, WhatsApp, LINE, and KakaoTalk.
Onboard Wi-Fi is currently available on almost 4,000 AirAsia flights each month and will be gradually expanded as more aircraft are equipped with the service.
