AirAsia to train more Thai pilots

AirAsia has signed an agreement that will lead to the training of more Thai pilots.
The low-cost carrier’s Bangkok-based subsidiary, Thai AirAsia, has joined forces with the Bangkok Aviation Center (BAC) with a mission to train new pilots at a targeted rate of 70 per year. This is in line with the airline’s expansion plans, which will see it add five new Airbus A320 aircraft each year.
“Thai AirAsia currently has 450 pilots, comprising 206 captains and 244 first officers. Up to 40% of the airline’s pilots are BAC graduates, making the company a main driver behind Thai AirAsia’s success over the past 11 years,” said Tassapon Bijleveld, CEO of Thai AirAsia.
“With today’s Memorandum of Understanding signing, we aim to have BAC produce us 70-80 commercial licensed pilots each year to keep up with our growth by five airplanes every year.”
Founded in 2002, BAC was Thailand’s first private aviation school and is now able to produce 180 pilots a year.
