AirAsia X boosts Australia, Taiwan
AirAsia X has unveiled the next phase of its network realignment strategy, with the addition of flights to Australia and Taiwan.
Earlier this week the Kuala Lumpur-based low-cost carrier announced that it would cease operating to Christchurch from the end of May, while all services to India and Europe will stop this month. The airline said it was taking these measures to focus on its key Asia Pacific markets, including Australia, China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Iran.
Now AirAsia X has revealed that it will boost its currently daily Taipei services to 11 flights per week from 22 June, while its Perth services will rise from daily to nine weekly flights from 24 June.
“AirAsia X is responding to the strong and growing travel demand to and from Taiwan and Australia,” said the airline’s CEO, Azran Osman-Rani.
“The demand for travel to Perth and Taipei has recorded strong average passenger loads in excess of 85% in 2011. The timings of the new additional frequencies would further provide our guests from Malaysia and the surrounding region flexibility in their travel and better connectivity into Australia and Taiwan and vice versa from the cities into Kuala Lumpur, where guests are able to tap on our vast route network of over 80 destinations across Southeast Asia and beyond,” he added.
AirAsia X started flying to Perth in November 2008 and it now operates scheduled flights four Australian destinations – Perth, Gold Coast, Melbourne and Sydney. The Taipei services launched in July 2009.
