Malaysia’s AirAsia X will expand its operations in Japan later this year with the launch of direct flights between Kuala Lumpur and Sapporo.

Commencing on 1 October 2015, the airline will serve the Hokkaido city four times a week, with flights departing KL every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday at 2335 and arriving in Sapporo at 0810 the next morning. The return services will then leave Sapporo at 0920 every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, arriving back in KL at 1700.

AirAsia X will operate its 377-seat, two-class Airbus A330-300 aircraft on the route.

“We are happy to see our network growing from strength to strength and I am sure many Malaysians share the same excitement as us as AirAsia X will be the only airline operating scheduled direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to this world class destination,” said Benyamin Ismail, acting CEO of AirAsia X.

“We are confident this route will also draw more inbound Japanese tourist traffic arriving from Sapporo who are often interested to explore surrounding cities in the region. This direct route will entice them to visit Malaysia and subsequently connect to various destinations in ASEAN and beyond,” he added.

Sapporo will become AirAsia X’s third destination in Japan, following Tokyo and Osaka.
