AirAsia X is expanding into Japan with the launch of its inaugural flight from Kuala Lumpur to the city’s Narita International Airport.
The route, which commenced on Friday, will now be operated four times a week, departing KLIA2 at 0045 every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday, and arriving at Narita at 0845. The return service will leave at 1000, getting back into KL at 1625. As with all AirAsia X flights, the new route will be operated using a 377-seat, two-class Airbus A330-300 aircraft.
The Narita route will operate alongside AirAsia X’s existing service to Tokyo Haneda Airport, as well as Thai AirAsia X’s flights connecting Narita with Bangkok.
“Our service to Tokyo Narita enhances our connectivity offering, complementing our existing daily services to Tokyo Haneda that arrives at night, with this service via Narita airport that arrives into Tokyo in the morning,” explained Azran Osman-Rani, CEO of AirAsia X.
“Given the unique nature of Tokyo’s airport constraints and the large size of the market, we are confident that this dual-airport operation will work. Many major Asian airlines operate from both Haneda and Narita airports, and the existing operations of our affiliate, Thai AirAsia X operating from Narita, gives us scale benefits.”
Last week, the airline confirmed that it would concentrate its future expansion plans on North Asia.
