AirAsia X welcomes new aircraft

AirAsia X has taken delivery of a new aircraft.
The new Airbus A330-300 was handed over to the Malaysian low-cost carrier at a delivery ceremony in Toulouse on 24 November 2014 and has since flown to its new home base at KLIA2 airport in Kuala Lumpur.
The aircraft named ‘Rhythmic Experience’ is powered by Rolls-Royce’s 1,500th Trent 700 engine – a milestone celebrated by the UK-based engine-maker. It becomes the 22nd aircraft in AirAsia X’s all-Airbus fleet, and comes equipped with 377 seats in two classes, including 12 flat-bed seats in business class.
But the Malaysian low-cost carrier will not take delivery of any new aircraft in 2015, as it decelerates its expansion plans. All six new A330s due to join the group’s fleet next year will be deployed with either its Thai or Indonesia units.
In total, 15 aircraft will now be delivered to the AirAsia X group over the next three years – six in 2015, four in 2016 and five in 2017. Previously the airline planned to welcome eight aircraft each year.
