Airbus has further improved the fuel-efficiency of its new A320neo aircraft.
Following a recent configuration of the aircraft’s cabins, the new version of the single-aisle A320 series will now offer 20% reduction in terms of fuel burn, compared with the existing model.
“The A320neo family keeps getting better as we are continuously innovating both in cabin productivity and engine efficiency to stay ahead of the game,” said John Leahy, Airbus’ chief operating officer.
“The neo will deliver a 15% fuel burn savings from day one in 2015 and we will go up to 20% by 2020, ensuring the A320 maintains its position as the leading next generation single-aisle aircraft family.”
The latest improvements follow the installation of new slimline seats and revamped rear lavatory and galley arrangements. These changes add to the existing fuel-savings achieved using new engines and aerodynamic improvements, including large wing-tip extensions.
To date, Airbus has taken orders for more than 3,250 A320neo aircraft from 60 customers. The aircraft is expected to enter service next year.
