Airbus will showcase its A380 in India this week, after the country recently lifted a ban that prevented the double-decker jet operating in the country.
In January this year, India’s Civil Aviation Ministry confirmed they would allow airlines to fly the A380 to four Indian airports – Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. And now Airbus will use the fourth India Aviation 2014 Airshow, which takes place this week in Hyderabad, to promote the aircraft in the Indian marketplace.
An Emirates A380 will be on static display for the first three days of the show. According to Airbus, this is intended to “demonstrate the readiness of India and airports like Hyderabad International for A380 operations”. Emirates and Lufthansa are both believed to be planning to launch their A380s to Indian destinations.
Kingfisher Airlines was the only Indian carrier to place an order for the A380, but this was purchase can cancelled following the airline’s grounding in 2012.
