Airbus has launched a new higher capacity version of its popular single-aisle model, the A320.
Spanish low-cost carrier Vueling welcomed the new A320 which seats 186 passengers in a single-class layout – six more than the standard 180-seat version.
Called ‘Airbus Space-Flex’, the new interior design creates more space at the rear end of the cabin by reconfiguring the toilets.
But Airbus states that the new 186-seat layout will retain “the higher comfort level of the Airbus 18-inch (45.7cm) wide seat…[and] a lavatory with full access to persons with reduced mobility”.
The new configuration is likely to be popular with low-cost carriers like AirAsia and Spring Airlines, which currently operate entire fleets of 180-seat A320s.
Boeing is also in the process of launching a new 200-seat version of its B737 aircraft, with Ryanair already having committed to purchasing 100 of the aircraft.
