Airbus has launched a new cabin design concept for its new long-haul aircraft.
The new ‘Airspace by Airbus’ cabins are intended to be a “flexible canvas” onto which airlines can install their own branded cabin products, and are designed to offer passengers a greater amount of space.
The new concept encompasses four key elements: comfort, ambience, service and design. Practical initiatives include larger overhead storage bins, modern and spacious lavatories, wider seats and aisles, LED lighting, unobstructed under-seat foot space and a new “customisable welcome area” at the main passenger boarding door.
Airbus also said the design features “clean, straight lines and shapes [and] clear surfaces”.
“Altogether, these aspects result in an aesthetically-pleasing design combined with not just a feeling of space, but real space,” the company stated.
“Airbus’ history of success is down to innovation, which has always included the cabin as a key driver. With the great passenger feedback on the A350 XWB, and our application of A350 cabin technology and features to the A330neo, we are proud to embrace our cabin design principles through our new brand – Airspace by Airbus,” said Dr Kiran Rao, Airbus’ executive vice president of strategy & marketing.
“The new A330neo is the launch vehicle for this brand, which along with the A350 XWB begins a new family of Airbus cabins. These will inspire and empower airlines to build the next generation of personalised flying experience for their passengers, while and at the same time optimising the economic performance of their aircraft space.”
Airbus’ new A330neo aircraft is currently being developed and is expected to enter service in late 2017.
