The global economic slump, shifting demographics and new corporate governance requirements are making airports reconsider their business models and seek new ways to adapt easily and efficiently to changing environments and fast paced operations.
As the world aviation map is being revised, with Middle East emerging as a new cross-road for global travel, the GCC states are finding themselves in the heart of this bold new era; and regional airport leaders are rising up to the challenge by investing heavily on emerging and maturing technologies that will “smart-up” their airports.
Iyad Hindiyeh, Head of Airport IT Business Development at Amadeus Group, said that Middle East airports are looking at upgrading their tech-savvy offering to ensure continuity of travellers’ mobility experience. “Airports are required to improve efficiency given the increased competition, higher passenger volumes and security constraints, government regulations, and new legislations to secure more environmental-friendly operations,” he noted.
