British travellers flocking to Greece this summer needn’t be worried of dramatic changes to the country no matter what happens to its government and economy, some operators have said.

While rumours gathered pace around Greece’s exit from the euro this week and some operators began to put contingency plans in place, holistic holiday specialists Skyros Holidays said it ‘can’t think of any importance’ around Greece’s election on 17 June to holidays and bailout agreements will take months to resolve, therefore after the popular summer season.

“Despite the alarm raised, we can’t think of anything of importance. Nothing would disturb the airlines schedules or the function of the Greek airports as the unions have decided this year not to interrupt the tourist trade,” said Yannis Andricopoulos, co-founder of Skyros.

However, Andricopoulos warned holidaymakers should take euro cash notes to Greece as they could ‘experience difficulties’ with cash machines or using cards if Greece’s financial situation is reached by a ‘troika’ from the EC, European Central Bank and IMF.

Other holidaymakers may simply opt for all-inclusive holidays, as found by Travelzoo. The deals website has seen bookings increase more than 30% for all-inclusive holidays in Greece, while flight-only searches have dropped 25%. Naturally the all-inclusive model usually sees guests stay within resort and carry as little cash as possible.

Echoing Directline Holidays earlier this week, Andricopoulos added that if the country is hit by further strikes these are very unlikely to happen during the summer and will not spread to holiday resorts.
