The majority of Indians book their hotels via mobile devices, a new report has revealed.
In its latest study, Hotels.com found that almost three quarters (73%) of Indians use mobiles to book hotel rooms, while just over 40% booked on other devices, such as personal computers.
And mobile devices appear to be encouraging more bookings; the study also found that more than half of those surveyed admitted that they book more trips than before because of their mobiles.
According to the study, having access to the right payment method and genuine guest reviews are key factors for Indians when booking a hotel on a mobile.
Mobile devices also appear to offer Indian travellers more freedom to book; 36% said they had booked hotels while on public transport, and an equal percentage said they book at airports prior to the departure.
Nearly 30% of travellers reserve their hotel rooms less than a week before the travel, and 68% said they have made a booking on the day of departure. This reflects the fact that more than 80% of Indian travellers said they feel their smartphone makes them more spontaneous.
