Continuing its international expansion, Onyx Hospitality Group has announced plans to launch its first hotel in Bangladesh.
The Thai hotelier has been appointed to operate a 134-room Amari property in the country’s capital, Dhaka. Located in the city’s Gulshan business district, Amari Dhaka is scheduled to open in 2014 and will feature three F&B outlets, a rooftop swimming pool and bar, spa and gymnasium. The hotel will also cater to the MICE market with meeting rooms and a function hall suitable for weddings.
“Bangladesh has a thriving economy and the country’s GDP is experiencing sustainable growth, particularly in the textile manufacturing, financial and telecommunications sectors which has resulted in strong demand for high quality hotel accommodation,” said Onyx’s president & CEO, Peter Henley.
“We have an owner with a great vision and drive to make this a truly stunning hotel in a great location. As a Thai company, having a presence in countries with close proximity to our home base has always been a priority for us. Amari has become a household name in Thailand and we look forward to building that level of brand recognition in Bangladesh,” he added.
The Bangladesh launch marks the latest stage in Amari’s international expansion. Following its debut in Qatar earlier this year, the brand recently unveiled plans for its first hotel in Malaysia. The upscale hotel brand also has 11 properties in Thailand.
