The recent Arab Ministerial Council on Tourism (AMCT) focused on several issues including a study by the Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) on criteria of selecting observers in AMCT meetings.
Through the study, QTA proposed creation of an AMCT observer member status. Other areas of discussion included following up on the implementation and development of an Arab tourism strategy; criteria for selecting youths for ‘know your Arab world youth tourism’ programme, new criteria for restaurant quality award, and other issues will enhance the Arab tourism sector.
The 17th session of AMCT concluded recently in Cairo. The session was attended by key organisations such as the Arab Tourism Organization, UNWTO, Arab Tourism Writers Union, Arab Academy for Science and Technology, and Technical Secretariat of the Arab League.
HE Issa bin Mohammed Al Mohannadi Chairman of QTA said: “Qatar is willing to cement its role in common Arab tourism action. Participation in the AMCT membership is with a view to supporting partnerships between QTA and its counterparts in the region. The Arab and GCC countries in general are looking at various opportunities to develop the Arab tourism sector and create appropriate climates to increase number of tourists and attract tourism investments to the region.”
