ANA has followed up its recent long-haul aircraft order with Boeing by securing its short- and medium-haul future with Airbus.
Last week the Japanese carrier finalised an order for 40 Boeing twin-aisle aircraft, including B777s and B787s. And now, it has similarly confirmed the purchase of 30 new Airbus single-aisle jets, including 23 A321neos and seven A320neos. This agreement was first announced in March 2014.
The new single-aisle jets will now be used to expand and renew ANA’s short-haul fleet, which currently comprises 14 A320s and 47 B737s.
Once deliveries start in 2016, ANA will become the first A320neo operator in Japan – a market long dominated by Boeing.
“The aircraft we have selected will enable us to modernise and expand our fleet,” said Shinichiro Ito, president & CEO of ANA. “These new aircraft will give us maximum flexibility and improved fuel efficiency and will allow us to meet the growth in demand, both internationally and in our domestic Japanese market.”
The assembly of Airbus’ first A320neo has been completed and ground tests will start shortly. The aircraft is due to enter service in the fourth quarter of 2015.
