Japan’s All Nippon Airways (ANA) has formed a major new partnership with Philippine Airlines (PAL), aimed at improving and streamlining services between the two countries.

The commercial agreement, which was signed this week by ANA’s president & CEO Osamu Shinobe and PAL’s chairman & CEO Lucio Tan, covers a range of areas including codeshare flights and reciprocal frequent flyer benefits.

Under the codeshare agreement, ANA will place its ‘NH’ code on PAL’s flights between the two countries, plus a series of domestic routes within the Philippines. In return, PAL will place its ‘PR’ code on ANA’s flights between Japan and the Philippines, plus several domestic services in Japan. The combined services will commence on 26 October 2014.

Earlier this year, both ANA and PAL launched new services connecting Tokyo’s Haneda Airport and Manila. This took the total number of flights operated by the two airlines between Japan and Philippines to 74 per week.
