Anantara has entered the Chinese hotel market for the first time with the launch of a new luxury resort in Sanya.
The hotel brand, which is controlled by Thailand-based Minor International, has unveiled the Anantara Sanya Resort & Spa, on the shores of southern China’s Hainan Island. Facilities at the Thai-styled resort include 122 rooms, suites and private pool villas, with an emphasis on what Anantara calls “spa accommodation”. For instance, the 500m² Spa Pool Villas face the ocean and include pools set within private tropical gardens. Guests also receive personal service from the villa hosts.
Other facilities include an Anantara Spa, tour service, outdoor pool, kids’ club and several dining outlets, including a seafood barbecue.
The Sanya property marks the first venture into China for Anantara, but it will soon be followed by a second – Anantara Xishuangbanna Resort & Spa, which is scheduled to open before the end of the year. Located in southern China’s Yunnan province, just upstream on the Mekong River from the existing Anantara Golden Triangle Resort in northern Thailand, Anantara Xishuangbanna will offer 80 rooms and 23 pool villas, plus a spa and local attractions such as cooking classes, tai chi and yoga overlooking the river.
The two Chinese properties mark the latest stages in Anantara’s Asian development. In the next 12 months the company also plans to launch new properties in Oman, Thailand and the UAE.
