Thailand’s Minor Hotel Group has unveiled details of a new Anantara beach resort in Malaysia.
Scheduled to open in 2018, the new-build Anantara Desaru Resort & Villas will form part of a new beachfront development in the state of Johor, close to Singapore.
The property will feature 123 rooms and villas, including 20 three- and four-bedroom units, plus restaurants and bars, two swimming pools, a lounge and observation bar, kids’ clubs, meeting rooms, a gym and an Anantara Spa. Water sports will also be available.
Spanning almost 16,000 hectares and spread across 17km of beachfront, the new Desaru Coast development will also include two championship golf courses designed by Ernie Els and Vijay Singh, a water park, retail village, a conference centre and other hotels and resorts.
“Following our initial announcement earlier in the year of this collaboration with our Malaysian partners, we are excited to now move to the next stage of this project to bring our luxury Anantara brand to Desaru Coast,” said William E. Heinecke, chairman and CEO of Minor International. “We believe Malaysia has a vast potential for growth in the tourism sector.”
The Malaysian hotel will join an existing portfolio of 18 Anantara hotels and resorts in Southeast Asia, covering Cambodia, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam.
