Andaman to focus on infrastructure

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands is planning to boost infrastructure development in the territory.

The Administration of the Union Territory, gave a forceful presentation listing plans ahead at the recent Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) annual convention in Kochi, Kerala.

G Victor Raj, deputy resident commissioner for Andaman and Nicobar Administration in Chennai told the IATO delegates that some of the major projects planned are sound and light show at Ross Island and upgradation of the sound and light show at the historic Cellular Jail.

Beach resorts at Long Island, Neil Island and the Havelock are being developed and the Dolphin Resort at Havelock is being refurbished. Close to 20 eco-cottages are being built in Radha Nagar in Havelock. Furthermore, a yacht marina is being developed at Viper Island while wayside amenities will also be developed at three places, along with canopy walkways.

Arrivals to the island increased from 1.27 lakh to 2.56 lakh from 2007 to 2012.
