Asia overlooked in ‘best beaches’ poll
Destinations in Asia Pacific have been largely overlooked in a TripAdvisor poll of the world’s best beaches. Of the top 10 best beaches, as voted for by TripAdvisor users, only one Asian destination made the list; Boracay in the Philippines, which polled second. The beaches of the Maldives were only good enough for 11th place, ahead of Bora Bora, French Polynesia, in 14th, and Thailand’s Koh Phangan in 25th. Perhaps suggesting that the majority of voters were from North America, the Caribbean islands and Mexico dominated the list.
The world’s best beach according to the poll is in Providenciales, in the Turks & Caicos Islands. Aruba came third, followed by Negril in Jamaica, and Tulum, on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula.
