Airlines in the Asia Pacific region carried a combined total of 24.9 million international passengers in August, 7.2% more than the same month last year.
According to the latest data from the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA), demand in revenue passenger kilometre (RPK) terms increased 8.2% last month, outpacing the 5.7% expansion in available seat capacity. This allowed average load factors to rise 1.8 percentage point to 83.0% – the highest monthly level so far in 2015.
The AAPA said the rising traffic was “underpinned by a boost in leisure travel demand during the holiday season”.
“The positive trend seen in the growth of international air passenger demand continues, and has been given a further boost by the widespread availability of affordable airfares,” said Andrew Herdman, AAPA director general. “Looking ahead, the outlook for air passenger markets remains positive, with competitively priced fares underpinning robust consumer demand.”
For the first eight months of the year, the region’s airlines carried a combined total of 184.2m passengers, up 8.7% year-on-year.
