Airport passenger numbers in the Asia Pacific region continued to experience steady growth in May 2014.
According to the latest data from Airports Council International (ACI), the region’s airports handled 5.3% more traffic in May 2014 than they did in the same month last year.
This growth was led by international traffic, which climbed 6.6%, while domestic passenger numbers increased at a slower rate of 4.7%.
Beijing Capital was the region’s busiest airport in May, followed by Tokyo Haneda, Hong Kong and Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta. The strongest growth however, was seen at Bangkok Don Mueang and Kaohsiung airports, with growth rates in excess of 20% at both hubs.
For the first five months of the year, Asia Pacific’s airport traffic has now climbed 5.4%, with international traffic rising 6.1% and domestic increasing 5.1%.
