Passenger traffic at airports in the Asia Pacific region continued to show a strong growth in May 2012.
According to the latest data from Airports Council International (ACI), passenger traffic at the region’s airport climbed 7.1% during the month. This was largely driven by a 10.2% jump in international traffic, with domestic passenger numbers rising at a slower rate of 5.2%.
Beijing continued to record the highest passenger throughput in the region, with more than 6.7m passengers in May. Tokyo Haneda (5.4m) came second, while both Hong Kong and Bangkok recorded more than four million passengers.
Passenger traffic for the first five months of 2012 increased 8.4%.
“As the engine of global economic growth, the Asia Pacific region has once again achieved significant result in passenger numbers,” said Patti Chau, Regional Director for ACI Asia Pacific. “This achievement is attributed to the efforts of airports, airlines and all stakeholders in this region and proves to the world the strong potential of this market.”
