Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines are among the countries to have signed up as exhibitors at Asia’s inaugural WTM Connect events, which take place in May.

The first editions of World Travel Market’s new shows, WTM Connect Asia and WTM Connect China, are targeted at the booming Southeast Asian and Chinese leisure tourism markets. And the events’ organiser, Reed Travel Exhibitions, has revealed a strong uptake for the shows from countries and companies in the region.

WTM Connect Asia, which takes place in Penang  from 18-20 May 2016, will include representation from the Malaysia Tourism Promotions Board, Philippines Tourism Promotions Board, Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism and  Penang Tourism, along with the Jordan Tourism Board and Visit Berlin.

Confirmed exhibitors at WTM Connect China, which will be held in Sanya from 23-25 May 2016, include Marriott Vacation Club, Cox & Kings, Nepal’s tourism board and Jac Travel.

Some organisations, including Penang Tourism, Visit Berlin and Marriott Vacation Club, are attending both events.

James Sy of the Philippine Tourism Promotions Board said his organisation would use WTM Connect Asia as a platform to launch the Visit the Philippines Again (VPA) 2016 campaign. “WTM Connect Asia will serve as a prime tool for the WTM buyers and the Philippines exhibitors to connect and network,” he added.

Meanwhile, Tiara Firsalina Surya, Indonesia’s director of Southeast Asian tourism promotion, revealed that five Indonesian tourism suppliers would be in attendance at the event.

Both the Asia and China events will feature a series of pre-scheduled buyer-seller meetings, educational sessions, networking events and evening functions.
