Hotel construction in the Asia Pacific region has declined in the last 12 months, a new report has revealed.
In its latest regional pipeline report, which doesn’t include data for China, Lodging Econometrics (LE) found that there were 851 hotels comprising 176,869 rooms under construction in the region in the first quarter of 2016. This marks a 5% decline in terms of both projects and rooms compared to Q1 2015.
Including projects still in the planning stages, the Asia Pacific pipeline now includes 1,545 hotels comprising 309,186 rooms, marking a 5% year-on-year decline in terms of projects and a 3% drop in terms of rooms.
In a previous report, LE found that hotel construction in China is also declining.
