Accor has announced the launch of its Sofitel brand in Auckland.

Formerly trading under the company’s MGallery brand as the Hotel Lighter Quay, the property has been rebranded and relaunched as the Sofitel Auckland Viaduct Harbour.

“We are delighted to welcome this new hotel to our network. This new establishment has further reinforced our presence in the Pacific region. The brand’s goal is to be present in all of the world’s major cities, with a target of 150 hotels by 2015,” said Robert Gaymer-Jones, chairman and CEO of Sofitel Monde.

The 172-room property, which becomes only the second Sofitel in New Zealand, is situated near Auckland’s waterfront and offers views of the Waitemata Harbour. Facilities include a café and restaurant which open onto a waterfront promenade, a spa with six treatment rooms, gymnasium, 20-metre indoor pool, and 195m² of meeting space.
