Expedition cruise operator, Aurora Expeditions has doubled the capacity of its Antarctica programme for the 2012-13 season. The company will operate 20 voyages on two ships, with the addition of Akademik Shokalskiy to the Antarctic Peninsula programme. The company will also offer a greater range of voyage lengths (eight to 20 days), and more adventure activities, with kayaking offered on 16 voyages.

One brand new voyage has been created that aims to follow in the wake of famed Antarctic explorer, Sir Ernest Shackleton. The ‘South Georgia & Weddell Sea – Shackleton’s Odyssey’ trip, will give passengers the option of completing the ‘Shackleton’s Crossing’ – an alpine traverse of South Georgia’s interior from King Haakon Bay to Stromness.

Other voyages visit locations including the Antarctic Peninsula, Weddell Sea, South Georgia and the Falkland Islands. All offerings include flights to and from Chile or the Falkland Islands.
