The Australian government is considering plans to use Elon Musk’s Hyperloop as an ultra-high-speed way of connecting Sydney and Melbourne.
The Hyperloop was suggested this week in a report by the Parliamentary Committee on Infrastructure, Transport & Cities, which said it was a viable alternative to a traditional high-speed railway.
At present, the journey between Sydney and Melbourne takes 12 hours by train and almost 10 hours by car. The Hyperloop, which shoots capsules of passengers through a tube at the speed of sound, would reduce the travelling time to just one hour.
The development of a Hyperloop is also likely to be cheaper to develop than high-speed railway.
Other countries considering the Hyperloop include the UAE and India.
