The Association of Women Travel Executives (AWTE) hosted its Christmas Lunch on Wednesday, bringing together executives from the UK’s travel and tourism industry and raising more than £20,000 (US$25,300) for the Alzheimer’s Society.

The popular annual event took place at London’s Grange Tower Bridge Hotel, where exiting AWTE chair Debbee Dale announced that AWTE Ireland will launch in early 2017, with more international chapters expected to follow. This comes after the recent announcement of AWTE’s global expansion plans.

“2016 has been a landmark year for the AWTE – taking the association global is a fantastic step achieve and it’s exciting to have our first few members around the globe sign up to be part of our dynamic community of female travel professionals,” Ms Dale said.

“The start of a new beginning in Ireland – with our Irish chapter launching early next year – is also fantastic to see come to life.

“The AWTE Christmas lunch, as well as just being enormous fun, is a great opportunity for the AWTE and its members to join together and celebrate these achievements and support female progression and development in the travel and tourism industry,” she added.

The event also featured a speech and special live performance of “The Snowman” by Aled Jones, a raffle and auctions, which helped raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society.

The headline sponsor of the Christmas lunch was Attraction World, with Seabourn sponsoring welcome drinks and Feefo sponsoring the musical entertainment.
