A baby has been delivered high above the Atlantic on a Royal Jordanian flight to New York.
A Jordanian passenger gave birth to a baby girl aboard the 787 Dreamliner and the captain was scheduling an emergency landing at a Canadian airport, but the delivery was fast and easy, helped by an anaesthesiologist and a legal nurse who happened to be on board.
The airline reported that both mother and child were in good health and there was no need to divert the plane.
The traveling mother was pregnant in her 31st week. RJ rules allow a pregnant woman to travel up to 36 weeks of pregnancy in case of single pregnancy, and up to 32 weeks for multiple child pregnancy.
Both were transferred to hospital when the plane landed in JFK.
Royal Jordanian provides its cabin crew members with special training in first aid and birth deliveries.
