Bali’s tourism industry is undergoing an unprecedented boom, with international visitor arrivals showing strong and sustained double-digit growth.
The latest monthly arrival figures, reported by BaliDiscovery.com, show that the island welcomed a total of 484,231 overseas visitors in July 2016, marking a 26.5% compared to the same month last year and representing the strongest July in history for Bali.
And for the first seven months of 2016, Bali’s arrivals have now increased 19.8% year-on-year to 2.76 million, meaning the island is on track to smash its full-year record of four million visitors, set in 2015.
At the start of the year, Bali’s tourism authorities provisionally targeted 4.2m international arrivals for 2016, but this year’s total is now likely to be closer to five million.
The island’s top two source markets, Australia and mainland China, are driving this growth. Australian arrivals to Bali increased 12.1% in the first seven months of 2016, and are expected to pass the one million mark for the first time this year.
Chinese arrivals are increasing even faster, at a rate of 25.2% this year. Combined, these two source markets contributed almost 44% of total international visits to Bali in the January-July 2016 period.
The UK (+26.8%) and India (+37.3%) have also shown strong growth in 2016, rising into Bali’s top five source markets, along with Japan (+2.6%). But these countries remain significantly behind Australia and China in terms of absolute numbers.
