The operator of Bali’s main cruise port fell short of its target of handling 60 cruise ship visits in 2016.

RadarBali.com reported PT Pelindo III, which manages the Port of Benoa, as saying that eight cruise ships cancelled their planned stops in Bali last year, due to security or weather concerns.

P&O Australia’s Pacific Eden cancelled its Bali stop due to poor weather conditions, while Celebrity Solstice, Celebrity Millennium and Radiance of the Seas all cited security concerns for a series of no-shows.

This caused a slight decline in Bali’s cruise passenger numbers last year, falling almost 1% to 68,060. For 2017, this number of expected to increase 10%, helped by the extension of the port’s pier which will allow it to handle larger cruise ships.
