The largest cruise ship currently sailing in Asian waters, Royal Caribbean’s Ovation of the Seas, has made its maiden call in Bangkok.
The 347-metre-long, 2,090-cabin vessel docked in the Thai capital’s Laem Chabang port on Friday 31 March 2017, as part of a five-night cruise from Singapore. The ship was carrying more than 4,000 passengers – the highest number ever to have visited the port on a single vessel.
Ovation of the Seas stayed in the port overnight, allowing passengers to explore Bangkok, Ayutthaya and Pattaya. More than 100 Thai passengers who boarded the ship in Singapore disembarked in Laem Chabang, while another 200 started their cruise in Thailand.
To celebrate the maiden call, a traditional plaque and key exchange ceremony was held in Laem Chabang between Ovation of the Seas’ Captain Flemming Nielsen and local officials, including Zoroz Kajohnprasat of the Port Authority of Thailand.
In March and April 2017, Ovation of the Seas is offering 10 cruises from Singapore ranging from three to five nights, visiting both Phuket and Bangkok.
