Barrhead Travel has opened its first concession store in Sainsbury’s this week.
The opening is part of the travel group’s bid to boost its high street presence and has opened the first at the newly refurbished Sainsbury’s superstore at Kingsgate Retail Park, Lanarkshire.
The company said it will expand the partnership across the UK if this first one is a success.
“We already have an existing purpose built concept store at the other side of the town which has been a huge success. We expect the new store will be just as warmly received,” said Bill Munro, founder and chairman of Barrhead Travel. “Scots are as keen as ever to book holidays – indeed, Glasgow Airport’s figures so far this year are up 3% – and we’re continually looking at ways to make travel simpler and more accessible. This is a very exciting time for the business; opening inside a supermarket is a new and exciting venture for us.”
The announcement follows Virgin Holidays’ Christopher Roe’s speech at the Elite Travel Group conference on Saturday, who said its concessions have boosted demand for long-haul travel in the towns it operates.
