Best Western has signed its first ever hotel in Naypyidaw, the capital of Myanmar.

The company held a ceremony in the city last week to mark the signing of a management agreement for the Best Western Premier The Grand – a new upscale hotel which is expected to open in the second quarter of 2014.

The 205-room hotel will become one of the first internationally-branded hotels in the Naypyidaw, which has been Myanmar’s seat of government since 2006.

“We are delighted to be here in Myanmar, putting pen to paper for the first ever Best Western hotel in Naypyidaw,” said Glenn de Souza, Best Western’s vice president of international operations for Asia and the Middle East.

“Myanmar has made great strides in recent years… [and] Naypyidaw, as the country’s modern capital, is at the very heart of this development. In hosting several major events, including this year’s Southeast Asian Games, the city is truly opening up to the world. I have no doubt that Naypyidaw will experience a surge in business and leisure tourism in the coming years.”

Best Western Premier The Grand marks the company’s second announcement in the country in recent months, following the recent signing of the Green Hill Hotel in Yangon.
