Best Western has signed a new agreement that will see it open a new-build hotel located adjacent to Bangladesh’s main international air gateway, Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
Currently under construction, the hotel will operate under the upscale Best Western Plus brand when it opens in the second quarter of 2014. The hotel will feature 56 rooms, all with free Wi-Fi, plus a restaurant, bar, fitness centre, sauna, steam room, spa, and a rooftop barbecue outlet.
“With a population of more than 160 million people – the eighth largest in the world – and a fast-growing manufacturing industry, Bangladesh is becoming an increasingly important regional and global said Glenn de Souza, Best Western’s vice president of international operations for Asia and the Middle East.
“We are delighted to be able to offer a brand new international hotel located on the doorstep of the country’s main air gateway. I am confident that this exceptional new property will be extremely popular with the rising number of local and international air travellers flying in and out of the country,” he added.
The new hotel will be Best Western’s second in Dhaka, following the 51-room Best Western La Vinci Hotel. But the company expects to expand further across Bangladesh in the coming months and years, with plans for at least three hotels in the coastal destination of Cox’s Bazar.
