bmi regional looks for technology upgrade

bmi Regional has eyed technology updates as the next stage in its development as an independent airline.
Speaking to Travel Daily recently the airline’s marketing director Colin Lewis said it will focus on its technology offering to improve the customer experience of the carrier, with an app in the pipeline as well as an updated website.
Plans are also in place to integrate more technology into various customer ‘touch points’ while more content will be available.
Lewis explained how the upgrade, along with new frequencies, will help the airline move into a new era.
“The initial work of becoming an independent airline and building our network to the right size and frequencies is done and this has made us optimistic for future success,” he explained. “Once we rethink on the touch points and add more frequencies we can enter a period of more maturity for the airline.”
From 3 September the carrier’s flights between Bristol and Aberdeen will go to three times a day on Wednesday and Thursday, as will its services from East Midlands to Brussels. An increased service to four times a week will also be implemented on its Karlstad to Frankfurt route.
Lewis told Travel Daily its regional focus and codeshare agreements had been a cornerstone to its success, although not having a London base can be a challenge.
“We’ve had significant growth in our network since signing the codeshare agreements as it means our passengers can connect further into Europe and beyond. These have been very successful for us along with our punctuality record and the new mainland European routes,” he said. “The biggest challenge is that without a London base people don’t always see us and think we are there, but we are going back to our roots as a brand and serving these regional routes. London is not a focus for us.”
The updates come as competitors easyJet and British Airways continue to adapt and add their short-haul offering, with bmi regional also looking at new onboard and ground services and amenities for customers to stand out from others.
